Tofu is one of those ingredients that often divides opinion. Some find it bland and uninteresting, while others swear by its versatility and nourishing benefits. The truth is, tofu is like a blank canvas and when prepared with the right flavours, it can become the star of your plate. These Tofu Bites are a simple, fuss-free way to turn plain tofu into something golden, crisp, and bursting with flavor.
The secret lies in technique. Start by pressing the tofu to remove any extra water – this step may seem small, but it makes all the difference when it comes to achieving that beautiful golden crust. Once cubed, the tofu is pan-seared until crisp on the outside while staying tender inside. Garlic and ginger bring warmth and fragrance, while a splash of soy sauce or tamari adds that savoury, umami punch tofu naturally loves to soak up.
The best part about Tofu Bites is their versatility. They can stand alone as a quick protein-packed snack, pair beautifully with rice or noodles for a fuller meal, or serve as a topping for salads and Buddha bowls. A sprinkle of sesame seeds or fresh herbs like cilantro or green onions lifts the dish, adding freshness and crunch.
In less than 20 minutes, you’ll have a dish that’s light yet satisfying, wholesome yet indulgent. If you’ve been hesitant about cooking with tofu, this is the recipe to start with. Easy to master, endlessly adaptable, and nourishing with every bite it might just change how you feel about tofu altogether.
